Revival and Protection of Cultural Heritage

Kiribati is generally considered Micronesian. Te I-Kiribati are considered culturally and ethnically homogeneous, with a shared genetic history, cultural traditions, values, historical experience, and language. Traditional knowledge and cultural skills is a rich resource for Kiribati. Culture is implicit in the Kiribati community, although the intrinsic value tends to be overlooked. Traditional knowledge and cultural practices have become increasingly undervalued and have also deteriorated. Therefore, the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the assistance of Culture and Museum Division is trying to protect and revive our cultural Heritage.

Kiribati Island Councils Projects

The Council discussed the need to progress economic development plans to coincide with Council Strategic Plans and how it was important to build economic governance and good governance practices around economic based policies of the Council.

Development support at the island level in Kiribati is led by two key government ministries. Donor coordination for the KDP is done by the NEPO in Ministry of Finance at the national level. MIA coordinates assistance at the island council level.
